The Japanese Meteorology Agency has put out a warning on the areas that will be affected by the super typhoon’s trajectory and according to NationTV, one of the first to meet with Hagibis’ path is the famous cat island of Okishima.

Located in Okinawa, Okishima island is the only inhabited island within Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in the country and one of the oldest in the world. Famous for being one of the ‘cat islands’ in Japan, Okishima has a large feline population that roams freely and are usually happy to greet any visitors who come to the island.

Knowing that there are not many humans residing on the island to give shelter for the cats when the storm inadvertently hits, many netizens are calling for anyone nearby to help safeguard their safety. One particular post has since gone viral with over 27,000 shares which you can find below:

ขอให้น้องๆปลอดภัย🙏🇯🇵ห่วงชาวญี่ปุ่นแล้วก็อดจะเป็นห่วงน้องๆไม่ได้ ดูจากทิศทางพายุแล้วเกาะแมวที่น่าจะโดนไปเต็มๆก็คือเกาะแมว…

The Facebook post shared how the cat island of Okishima is in the direction of the super typhoon and hopes that the cats’ natural instinct can help them in surviving and taking shelter when the storm hits. Furthermore, the post also calls into attention the other Japanese cat islands that will be affected by the storm, directly and indirectly, such as Ogijima, Sanagishima and Manabeshima.

Let’s hope all the inhabitants of these islands, whether humans or animals will be safe and sound throughout!
