However, the next time you are eating this snack you might want to check properly before stuffing a handful of fish skin into your mouth. A netizen recently shared her traumatising experience on Facebook when her brother and mother almost ate a lizard that was sitting inside their bag of Irvins Salted Egg Fish Skin. Eeww!

She wrote, “My poor brother and mum ate half the bag before they found this inside!!! Soooo disgusting! How can this happen? This gecko was probably deep fried with the salmon skin by the looks of it.”

She also posted a few photos of the stiff, dried up lizard that looks like it is coated with the same salted egg seasoning as the fish skin.

WORLD OF BUZZ approached this netizen, who told us that the bag of Irvins Salted Egg Fish Skin was purchased at a supermarket in Bangkok as she was living in Thailand but based on the bag’s label, the salted egg fish skin is made in Singapore. Some people were also wondering if the lizard fell inside after the bag was open but she dismissed this, saying that the lizard looks fried. It certainly looks really crispy!

Following this incident, she said that her brother wrote an angry email to the company complaining about the “surprise” addition to their Irvins Salted Egg Fish Skin. She told us that the company did reply to her brother and apologised for the incident, offered a refund and even offered to pay for any medical fees.

The post went viral with over 4,700 shares at the time of writing. Two other netizens have also revealed to the netizen that they had similar experiences of finding deep-fried geckos in their salted egg fish skin snacks as well. However, she also told us that Irvins stated they have done a product recall and have also moved to a new production facility that is newer and cleaner. So, the company is confident that it won’t happen again.

In a report by the Straits Times, Irvins came out with a statement and told customers that they have also reported this to the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) and that the company will cooperate fully in its investigations. Irvin Gunawan, the company’s founder, said that any customers who have their salted egg snacks expiring on Oct 16 this year can e-mail [email protected] to return the product and receive a refund.

Luckily her brother and mother managed to find the lizard before they accidentally ate it! Next time, look at your food properly before you chow down on it!
