It’s people like this who really make Malaysia a better place!

Earlier today, a Malaysian netizen named Gary decided to share the story of an underground homeless community and the hardships they’ve had to face.

In his Facebook post, Gary said a majority of these homeless people are East Malaysian who have had to cook and fend for themselves to survive.

This homeless community in particular is unique because they fish at a nearby river and cook their own food using old pots and pans, and even have designated areas for them to wash up, cook and sleep.

However, last week, some ‘unknown agencies’ apparently destroyed and burnt nearly all of their belongings, and whatever that couldn’t be destroyed were thrown into the nearby river!

They were even chased away by these people, and like anyone fearing for their lives, they ran for their safety, left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Gary, the founder of Street Feeders of Kuala Lumpur (SFOKL), who often helped the homeless that are in need, decided to help these people as much as he could.

He asked a friend of his to ask them what they needed most and once they knew what to get, Gary and his friends rushed to buy those items before the shops closed for the day.

Gary and two of his friends bought all the necessities and anything else they could find that would be helpful to those 15 to 20 homeless people.

Gary described the homeless people when he went to deliver the items to them, saying,

“For [the] most part they were still jovial, optimistic even that tomorrow will be brighter, these are the same street friends who lost all their material belongings not too long ago.”

However, despite having people burn and throw all that they had into the river, humanity was not all lost. Gary’s post stated that while delivering the items to these people, he noticed how some of them still had pots and pans despite having everything destroyed a few days ago. He explained,

“They [the homeless people] said the Alam Flora workers were there a few days ago and saw they had lost their livelihood, so these amazing human beings went and searched everywhere just to bring back some cooking stuff for this one particular community.”

Although they didn’t have much to offer, they still offered Gary and his friends some fish curry they had just cooked, but he declined because of how much he had to process at that moment.

Gary also recalled something memorable he learnt when his mother was volunteering at a soup kitchen.

“Muslim street friends still observe their fast during the holy month of Ramadhan.

“I remember asking some street friends years ago why and they said that their faith is stronger than what they lacked in life and it is just enough to keep them going.

“Sometimes it is also that same faith in others that someone will offer help for all the wrongs they may have been dealt.”

At the end of his inspiring post, Gary said that we must always do what we can to help others, no matter how impossible it may seem.

He still has plans to help the underground homeless community as much as he can, and needless to say, it doesn’t come at a cheap price. However, he is open to contributions from others.

If you would like to make a contribution, you can send Gary a private message on Facebook to see how you can help!
