So what is an Equinox phenomenon? As stated by The Star, the phenomenon occurs when the sun is positioned at the top of the equatorial region which leads to a slight increase in the temperature. In Malaysia, it will happen twice a year which is on 21 March and 23 September.

However, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Alui Bahari, as reported by The Star, the country is not experiencing heatwaves where the temperature exceeds 37 degrees Celsius based on the thermal wavelength monitoring system. He said,

“The equatorial region receives maximum sunlight throughout the year.”

He then explained that due to the constant sunlight, the Equinox phenomenon will only have a slight impact on the overall temperature. The good news is, according to MetMalaysia, several states will be experiencing thunderstorms starting today (23 March).
